Fish farming systems diversity and implications in the Republic of Benin: Fish farm types and their economic performance

Fish farming is promoted in the Republic of Benin to meet demands fish consumption and increase exports neighbouring countries. Targeting farm policy interventions efficiency heterogeneous systems a challenge. Farm type delineation allows for simplifying diversity systems. Multivariate statistical techniques combined with Calinski Harabasz pseudo F statistic bootstrapping were applied determine realistic number types. Four types identified characterised based on intensity, species diversification, management capacity operators. Furthermore, profits both labour capital productivity increased continuously from extensive farms semi-intensive farms. They also vary widely within across country. These may be supported by appropriate promotion interventions. Most importantly, training programs must tailored each strengthen technical managerial farmers.
